On Sunday, the Swedish golf player Anna Nordqvist has won Evian Championship 2017 by defeating American Brittany Altomare in a playoff. It was her second major title since the 2009 LPGA Championship. She earned $547,500 with this victory.
The golf tournament was reduced to 54 holes after Thursday’s play was stopped because of bad weather. On Saturday, she was 5 shots behind but on next day, she carded 2 eagles in a six-under-par 66 to end nine under the 26-yr old Alomare. In torrential rain, both the players begun the playoff, but Nordqvist won at the first extra hole with bogey five.
The 30-yr old Nordqvist said,“Winning didn’t really cross my mind until I was having a great couple birdies and eagles there down the stretch. I didn’t get off to the best start, even though I felt like I was hitting it pretty good.”
“The play-off hole was so hard and the weather was about the worst I have ever played in. My hands were numb for the last couple of shots. But I grew up in Sweden so I am used to playing in pretty bad weather.”, she added.
After being suffered from mononucleosis, a few month ago, this victory really matters to Anna Nordqvist. She said, “The last couple months have been tough. I love competing and I love practicing, and staying in bed hasn’t been the most exciting. My grandpa was always my biggest role model. He always used to tell me to never give up, and that’s what I never did today.”
We also wish congratulations to her and hope that she always stay healthy and get a huge success in her carrier.
