On Wednesday night, Chicago Cubs, the defending World Series Champion, has won the 2017 NL Central title with a 5-1 victory over St. Louis Cardinals. It is the second consecutive division title of the Cubs.
For the first time since 1906-1908, the organization has gone to the playoffs for three straight seasons. John Lackey, who pitches 6 strong innings for the Cubs, said, “It was tough. It’s always a challenge and we got a lot of people’s best shots. We played well and we’re back in the playoffs and we’ll see what happens.”
Kris Bryant, the Cubs Infielder, said, “It’s fun to be a team that people want to beat. We embrace that and we’re going to go with that for as long as we can. It feels good right now knowing they (the Cardinals) always beat up on us before and now we’re able to kind of get of a taste of that, too.”
The Chicago Cubs has become the second visiting team to celebrate the National League Central title at Busch Stadium III. Jason Heyward, the cubs outfielder, said, “It’s a blessing to be in a situation to win a World Series on a team and win a division in a tough division the very next year.”
Heyward added, “That’s not my plan. That’s someone else’s plan there. It just happened to be here. Fans, rivalry, whatever, it is what it is, but I know we had a lot of fun competing.” The Cubs will face the Washington Nationals in the NLDS(National League Division Series) on October 6.
We wish congratulations to the winning team and also a good luck for the next game series.
