On Friday, Julie Ertz scored twice, with a span of 8 minutes, for the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) to win against New Zealand at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, located in Colorado. She gave the United States an early 2-0 lead over the opponent in the first half.
Ertzs’s first goal came at the 16th minute, when her teammate Lindsey Horan sent the ball directly to her feet. She made another goal at 24th minute with the help of Megan Rapinoe and made the score 2-0. After that, in the 75th minute, Hannah Wilkinson of New Zealand team got one past Alyssa Naeher and cut the US’s lead to 2-1.
After 4 minutes, Alex Morgan made a goal by beating a defender and then a goalie, thus leading the score by 3-1. It was the 75th career strike for Alex, making a tie with Cindy Parlow for seventh on the United States national team goals list.
This match was not only memorable for Ertz but also for the other players. Sofia Huerta, who had earlier played for Mexican U-20 team, made her USWNT debut and assisted on Morgan’s goal. The match was equally important for the U.S. midfielder Kelley O’Hara because it was the 100th career cap for her.
USWNT will play against New Zealand again in second friendly on Tuesday at Nippert Stadium, situated in Cincinnati. The match will start at 7:30 pm ET. We wish a good luck to United States Women’s National team and hope that they will win the match again.
